Skip the in-town beaches and head to the Karaburun peninsula — a roadless wilderness of cliffs and sea caves accessible only by boat — or to Sazan island, a former military base opened to visitors in 2019. The drive over the Llogara pass south towards Dhërmi is one of Europe's great coastal drives.

Karaburun Peninsula
A roadless, uninhabited peninsula of limestone cliffs, caves and hidden coves — accessible only by boat from Vlorë marina. One of the most wild and beautiful coastlines in the Mediterranean.

Sazan Island
A former military island that opened to day-trippers in June 2019. Explore Cold War bunkers, wartime tunnels and pristine beaches in what is now part of the Karaburun-Sazan Marine Park.

Haxhi Ali Cave
A dramatic sea cave on the Karaburun coast, accessible only by boat or by swimming through an arch. Inside is a hidden beach of white sand surrounded by stalactites.

Independence Square
The site where Albanian independence was declared on 28 November 1912. The square holds the Flag House museum, a beautifully preserved pavilion marking the exact historic moment.

Llogara Pass
The spectacular mountain pass begins just 25 km south of Vlorë — a climb through black pine forest to 1,025 m, with the entire Riviera unfurling below. One of the great drives in Europe.

Zvernec Monastery
A small Byzantine monastery on a wooded island in the Nartë lagoon, reached by a wooden walkway — a peaceful and unexpected stop just north of Vlorë.
