Tirana to Vlorë: How to Get There

How to get from Tirana to Vlorë, gateway to the Albanian Riviera and the Llogara Pass — furgon, bus, rental car or transfer — with realistic times and honest prices.

The short answer

Vlorë is about 150 km south of Tirana and roughly 2 to 2.5 hours by road, mostly on motorway. It's where the Adriatic meets the Ionian and the start of the Riviera over the Llogara Pass. Travel by furgon or bus, rental car, or private transfer.

Furgon and bus — the budget way

Buses and furgons to Vlorë run frequently from the Tirana terminals, taking around 2.5 hours. The local furgon fare is roughly 500–800 lek (about €6–8), cash. Tourist-focused coaches (such as some RivieraBus services) cost more and run on set days — handy if you want a reserved seat, but pricier than the standard furgon. Confirm current schedules locally, especially outside summer.

Rental car — best for the Riviera

The drive is easy — the A2 motorway covers most of the way in about 2 hours. A car really pays off here because Vlorë is the gateway to the Riviera: from town the road climbs the spectacular Llogara Pass and drops to Dhërmi, Himarë and the southern beaches.

Taxi or private transfer

A private transfer runs door to door in about 2 hours — comfortable with luggage or a family, and easy to combine with an onward Riviera drop-off. Agree the fare when you book.

Which option is right for you

For the cheapest trip, take a furgon. To carry on down the Riviera at your own pace, rent a car — public transport thins out along the coast, especially off-season. For comfort, book a transfer. Vlorë itself is worth a night for its long seafront before you head over Llogara.

Practical tips

  • Vlorë is the gateway to the Llogara Pass and the Riviera — a car makes the coast far easier.
  • Standard furgons are much cheaper than tourist coaches for this route.
  • Carry cash in lek for buses and furgons.
  • The Karaburun–Sazan boat trips from Vlorë run April to October only.
