The short answer
Vlorë is about 150 km south of Tirana and roughly 2 to 2.5 hours by road, mostly on the A2 motorway. From the airport you add the 17 km airport connection on top of that. It is where the Adriatic meets the Ionian and the start of the Riviera over the Llogara Pass, so most people arriving here are heading further south afterwards.
Getting out of the airport
Tirana International Airport sits about 17 km north of the city, roughly 20 to 30 minutes away. The LU-NA airport bus runs to central Tirana around the clock, every hour on the hour, taking 30 to 40 minutes and stopping behind the Palace of Opera and Ballet, a few minutes from Skanderbeg Square. Official airport taxis wait in front of the terminal — yellow, branded TAXI Tirana Airport, with the Auto Holiday Albania and airport logos on both sides.
Rental car — the flexible way
Pick up a car at the airport and drive south. The Tirana to Vlorë leg is about 2 hours on the A2 motorway, and a car pays off here more than almost anywhere else in Albania: from Vlorë the road climbs the Llogara Pass and drops to Dhërmi, Himarë and the southern beaches. Book ahead in summer.
Bus — there is a direct one
You do not need to go into Tirana. Hermes runs a shuttle between the airport and Vlorë directly, with departures spread through the day in each direction, and the airport's own transport page lists it alongside the Durrës, Fier and Shkodër services. It is the simplest way to do this on a budget: one vehicle, no transfer, no city to cross with luggage. Check current departure times before you fly, because the timetable is seasonal and the airport page is the one that gets updated.
Going via Tirana instead
Worth it only if the direct departure times do not suit you, or you want a night in the capital first. If you do go this way, know that the airport has two different buses and they go to different places. The LU-NA service to the city centre stops behind the Palace of Opera and Ballet, which is not where intercity buses leave from — there is a separate airport shuttle to the South and North terminals, running daytime hours only. Arriving at the Opera and expecting to find a Vlorë furgon is the mistake this page used to encourage. From the terminals the run to Vlorë takes around 2.5 hours.
Which option is right for you
A private transfer is simplest after a long flight, especially with luggage or children, and it is the only option that is genuinely door to door. A rental car is the right call if the Riviera is your real destination rather than Vlorë itself. The bus is much cheaper and perfectly workable, as long as you are not arriving late at night.
Where these times come from
This guide is assembled from the legs covered in detail elsewhere on the site: /guides/tirana-airport-to-tirana-city, /guides/tirana-to-vlore. Each leg guide carries the current fares and departure points for that stage. No end-to-end door-to-door time is given here, because the airport sits 17 km north of Tirana and nobody has measured the combined run — add the legs, then add waiting time between them, and confirm anything that changes with the operator.

Practical tips
- → Vlorë is the start of the Riviera, not the end of the journey — most travellers continue over the Llogara Pass the next day.
- → The airport bus runs hourly through the night, so a late arrival does not strand you.
- → Fares change: the Tirana to Vlorë guide carries current figures, and the operator is the authority on them.
