About this destination

Why Valbonë belongs on your route

Valbonë is the wilder end of the Theth–Valbonë route, reached by the Komani Lake ferry — a 2.5-hour boat journey through canyon walls that rivals Norwegian fjords. Most travellers do a multi-day loop: Shkodër → ferry → Valbonë guesthouse → hike to Theth → minivan back. Allow three days for the full experience.

What to see in Valbonë

Komani Lake Ferry

A 2.5-hour boat journey through Albania's deepest canyon, with cliff walls rising hundreds of metres on either side. Departs Koman daily in season — one of Europe's great scenic boat rides.

2

Valbonë–Theth Pass Hike

The 17 km crossing of a 1,795 m mountain pass into Theth valley. Albania's finest long-distance hike, through alpine meadows, snowfields and steep switchbacks. Allow 6–8 hours.

Maja e Rosit

A challenging peak above the Valbonë valley offering panoramic views of the Accursed Mountains (Bjeshkët e Namuna). Best attempted with a local guide from a Valbonë guesthouse.
