The short answer
Krujë is only about 45 km north of Tirana — roughly a 45 to 60 minute trip — which makes it one of the easiest half-day trips from the capital. Furgons and buses run frequently, or you can drive or take a taxi. It's a comfortable there-and-back in a day for the castle, the Skanderbeg Museum and the old bazaar.
Furgon and bus — cheap and frequent
Furgons and buses to Krujë leave from the Tirana terminals roughly every hour through the day, mostly in the morning, for only about 100–150 lek (around €1–1.50). One important catch: there are two places with similar names — Fushë-Krujë (down on the plain) and Krujë (the old town up the hill). Make sure the driver knows you want Krujë itself, and don't get off early at Fushë-Krujë. The last reliable minibus back to Tirana tends to leave Krujë in the mid-afternoon, so don't linger too late.
Rental car — quick and flexible
The drive is a straightforward 45 minutes or so, with a short climb up to the old town at the end. A car lets you choose your own timing and pair Krujë with a stop on the way back, and there's parking near the bazaar entrance.
Taxi or private transfer
A taxi or pre-booked transfer does the round trip easily, and some drivers will wait while you explore for a fixed price — handy given the modest afternoon bus times. Agree the fare before you set off.
Which option is right for you
For the cheapest trip, take a morning furgon and keep an eye on return times. For flexibility, drive or arrange a taxi that waits. Either way, Krujë works best as a half-day: the castle, the Skanderbeg Museum and the bazaar fill three to four hours comfortably.
