The fare is roughly 1,200–1,500 lek (about €12–15), cash. Operators seen on this route include Argjiro and Tirka 2000; buses heading to Sarandë usually stop at or near Gjirokastër too. Times and fares change seasonally, so confirm locally.
Rental car — the flexible way
The drive south takes about 3.5 hours on the A2 motorway and SH4. With a car you can pair Gjirokastër with the Blue Eye spring, Sarandë and the Riviera — all within an hour or two further south — and reach the steep old town without a long walk uphill.

A private transfer covers the distance door to door in around 3.5 hours with no changes — the easiest choice after a flight or with luggage. Agree the fare up front, as it varies by season and vehicle.
