The short answer
Tirana International Airport is only about 17 km north of the city — roughly a 20 to 30 minute trip depending on traffic. It's an easy connection, whether you take the cheap airport bus or a door-to-door taxi.
Airport bus — the cheapest (runs 24 hours)
LU-NA runs the city bus between the airport and central Tirana around the clock, seven days a week, leaving every hour on the hour, with the trip taking 30 to 40 minutes. In Tirana it stops behind the Palace of Opera and Ballet, a few minutes from Skanderbeg Square. An hourly service that genuinely runs all night is unusual for an airport bus, and it makes the bus a real option on a late landing rather than a daytime-only one. Do not confuse it with the coach terminal beside the P1 car park — those buses run to Vlorë, Fier and other cities rather than into central Tirana.
Taxi — fastest, door to door
Official airport taxis wait directly in front of the terminal and at the pick-up area, so you should never need to follow anyone across a car park. They are yellow, branded TAXI Tirana Airport, and carry the Auto Holiday Albania and airport logos on both sides — a car with neither is not the official service. The run into the centre takes 20 to 25 minutes depending on traffic, and the airport publishes a set fare for it, so confirm that published rate before you set off.
Driving, drop-off and parking
If someone is dropping you off, the Kiss & Fly lane in front of the terminal is free only for the first few minutes — long enough to lift bags out, not long enough to wait. Anyone meeting an arrival should use a car park instead: P1 and the underground garage are the closest and are priced accordingly, while P2 and P3 cost less if you will be there a while. Keep the ticket somewhere safe, as losing it carries a fixed penalty. Current tariffs for every zone are published on the airport's own parking page.
Private transfer or rental car
A pre-booked transfer gives you a named driver waiting at arrivals. If you're heading straight out of Tirana to the coast or the mountains, pick up your rental car at the airport instead and skip the city transfer altogether.

Practical tips
- → The city bus leaves on the hour around the clock — a real option even on a 3am landing.
- → With luggage or a late flight, a taxi or transfer is worth the extra.
- → Official taxis are yellow and carry the airport and Auto Holiday Albania logos on both sides — anyone approaching you inside the terminal is not one.
- → Kiss & Fly is free for a few minutes only; if you're meeting a delayed flight, park in P2 or P3 instead.
- → Save your hotel's address in Albanian to show the driver.
- → Agree any taxi fare before setting off.
