The short answer
Tirana International Airport is only about 17 km north of the city — roughly a 20 to 30 minute trip depending on traffic. It's an easy connection, whether you take the cheap airport bus or a door-to-door taxi.
Airport bus — the cheapest (runs 24 hours)
A public bus connects Tirana Airport with the city centre in about 20 minutes, and it runs 24 hours a day with a departure roughly every 60 minutes — genuinely useful if you land late at night or very early. It's the cheapest way into town by far; check the current fare and the stop location when you arrive.
Taxi — the fastest, door to door
A taxi reaches the centre in about 25 minutes. Agree the fare or ask for the meter before you get in — airports usually have a set rate, and confirming up front avoids any surprise. This is the easiest option with luggage or a late arrival.
Private transfer or rental car
A pre-booked transfer gives you a named driver waiting at arrivals. If you're heading straight out of Tirana to the coast or the mountains, pick up your rental car at the airport instead and skip the city transfer altogether.
