The short answer
Krujë is only about 45 km north of Tirana, roughly a 45 to 60 minute trip, and the airport sits between the two. That makes it the rare Albanian destination that is easier from the airport than from the city, and a comfortable there-and-back for the castle, the Skanderbeg Museum and the old bazaar.
Getting out of the airport
Tirana International Airport sits about 17 km north of the city, roughly 20 to 30 minutes away. The LU-NA airport bus runs to central Tirana around the clock, every hour on the hour, taking 30 to 40 minutes and stopping behind the Palace of Opera and Ballet, a few minutes from Skanderbeg Square. Official airport taxis wait in front of the terminal — yellow, branded TAXI Tirana Airport, with the Auto Holiday Albania and airport logos on both sides.
Rental car — the flexible way
The drive is a straightforward 45 minutes or so from Tirana, with a short climb up to the old town at the end, and there is parking near the bazaar entrance. From the airport you are starting part of the way along, so a car collected on arrival makes Krujë a genuinely easy first stop before continuing to the capital.
Bus and furgon — the cheap way
Furgons and buses to Krujë leave from the Tirana terminals roughly every hour through the day, mostly in the morning, so the bus route means going into the city first and back out again. One catch worth knowing whichever way you travel: there are two places with similar names, Fushë-Krujë down on the plain and Krujë the old town up the hill. Make sure the driver knows you want the old town.
Which option is right for you
A taxi or pre-booked transfer straight from the airport is the sensible choice here, because the bus route sends you into Tirana and back out for a destination you were already closer to. If you are collecting a rental car anyway, Krujë is the most rewarding first stop in the country.
Where these times come from
This guide is assembled from the legs covered in detail elsewhere on the site: /guides/tirana-airport-to-tirana-city, /guides/tirana-to-kruje. Each leg guide carries the current fares and departure points for that stage. No end-to-end door-to-door time is given here, because the airport sits 17 km north of Tirana and nobody has measured the combined run — add the legs, then add waiting time between them, and confirm anything that changes with the operator.

Practical tips
- → Fushë-Krujë is not Krujë — say the old town, or you will be left on the plain below it.
- → This is one of the few places genuinely worth visiting on arrival day, before you reach Tirana.
- → Most of the furgon departures are in the morning, which shapes a day trip more than the journey time does.
