The short answer
Korçë is roughly three to three and a half hours from Tirana by road, with the airport connection on top. This is one of the easier journeys in the country: the roads are fully paved, buses run through the day rather than once each morning, and nothing about it depends on a season or a boat. If you have just come from planning a northern trip, the contrast is the point.
Getting out of the airport
Tirana International Airport sits about 17 km north of the city, roughly 20 to 30 minutes away. The LU-NA airport bus runs to central Tirana around the clock, every hour on the hour, taking 30 to 40 minutes and stopping behind the Palace of Opera and Ballet, a few minutes from Skanderbeg Square. Official airport taxis wait in front of the terminal — yellow, branded TAXI Tirana Airport, with the Auto Holiday Albania and airport logos on both sides.
Bus and furgon
Airport bus into central Tirana, then a bus or furgon from the south and international terminal. Departures run through the day, so this is a journey you can make without planning around a single service. The road leg takes about three to three and a half hours.
By car
Collect a car at the airport and drive south-east through the Shkumbin valley and Elbasan, then up past Pogradec and Lake Ohrid before the road levels onto the Korçë plateau. The lake is worth a stop, and a car makes that easy in a way the bus does not.

Practical tips
- → No season, no ferry, no dawn start — this is the straightforward one.
- → Pogradec and Lake Ohrid sit on the route and are worth breaking the drive for.
- → Buses run through the day, so a late-afternoon arrival still works.
