The short answer
Himarë is further down the Riviera than Dhërmi. The journey is two documented legs plus the airport connection: Tirana to Vlorë, about 150 km and roughly 2 to 2.5 hours mostly on motorway, then Vlorë to Himarë, around 1.5 to 2 hours over the Llogara Pass. Coastal bus frequency is very seasonal, so the time of year shapes this journey more than the distance does.
Getting out of the airport
Tirana International Airport sits about 17 km north of the city, roughly 20 to 30 minutes away. The LU-NA airport bus runs to central Tirana around the clock, every hour on the hour, taking 30 to 40 minutes and stopping behind the Palace of Opera and Ballet, a few minutes from Skanderbeg Square. Official airport taxis wait in front of the terminal — yellow, branded TAXI Tirana Airport, with the Auto Holiday Albania and airport logos on both sides.
Rental car — the flexible way
The A2 handles the Tirana to Vlorë leg in about 2 hours, then the coast road climbs the Llogara Pass and runs south, reaching Himarë in roughly another 1.5 to 2 hours. A car is the only way to do this comfortably outside summer, and it lets you stop at Dhërmi and the smaller coves on the way down.
Bus and furgon — the cheap way
Airport bus into Tirana, bus or furgon to Vlorë, then a Riviera bus over the pass. The first two legs run year-round and frequently; the third is the seasonal one. In summer this is a perfectly normal way to reach Himarë. In winter it is not a plan you should rely on without checking the coast road services first.
Which option is right for you
Summer: the bus chain is cheap and works. Any other season: drive, or book a transfer. The decision turns entirely on the Vlorë to Himarë leg, which is the one with no year-round alternative.
Where these times come from
This guide is assembled from the legs covered in detail elsewhere on the site: /guides/tirana-airport-to-tirana-city, /guides/tirana-to-vlore, /guides/vlore-to-himare. Each leg guide carries the current fares and departure points for that stage. No end-to-end door-to-door time is given here, because the airport sits 17 km north of Tirana and nobody has measured the combined run — add the legs, then add waiting time between them, and confirm anything that changes with the operator.

Practical tips
- → Himarë works better as a base than as a day trip — the coast road is too slow to treat casually.
- → The Llogara Pass is spectacular and slow; budget time for it rather than treating it as transit.
- → Check the Riviera bus situation before travelling outside July and August.
